Interview with a Powwow Doctor

Interview with a Powwow Doctor

Episode 100

For our 100th episode we finally get around to doing a show on Powwow, a form of folk magic and faith healing local to the Pennsylvania Germans. After a discussion of John Hohman and his powwow book, The Long Lost Friend, we talk with Alison's mother, Catherine Diehl who shares some memories of family powwow practices. Finally, we hear Catherine's interview with powwow doctor Philip Smith, recorded in 1979.
